Sudán Election…Lesson of Democracy

Four peaceful days of voting were over. No matter whether the turnover was weak in some polling centers, or over crowded in others. It doesn’t matter if there were minor technical and logistical problems that delayed the voting process in some States, and which are being investigated.

What matters, is the fact that the operation was run smoothly without any difficulties or disturbances as many people expected or predicted, especially those who belong to the parties which boycotted the election.

The African Union, IGAD and other organizations issued statements after the voting was over, they confirmed their satisfaction with the electoral process until the end of polls last Thursday evening. They stated that it was run according to the international standards.

This conclusion was also voiced by the Arab League, the Russian monitors and other regional and international monitors.

It was fair transparent operation, no complaints whether legal or about irregularities were filed with the police, regarding the election process.

Few days the full results will be announced. Who wins is the choice of the people who practiced their constitutional right.

The international community and those parties which boycotted the election should accept the result of this democratic process. They were expecting sound failure of the process which disappointed them. They should accept the result because they should have participated if they were willing to change the outcome.

Thanks the National Election Commission (NEC), for arranging and managing such a complicated process in a way that made all observers hail your role in ensuring easy flow of the process.

Thanks NEC again for making the Sudanese people feel proud in showing the world that they are democratic people. This is a strong message to correct the distorted image of the country abroad that is created by anti-Sudan parties.
