CIS University and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Spain Foundation have presented a disruptive workshop in the world of education that combines art, technology and human rights, under the direction of Dr. Laura López Paniagua and with the participation of renowned artist Karlos Gil.

This innovative educational initiative stems from the vision of Dr. María Díaz de la Cebosa and offers university students a practical educational experience, in which artistic creation becomes a means to reflect on human rights values and their impact on contemporary society.

A workshop within the educational framework of the RFK Foundation

The workshop is part of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Spain Foundation's mission to foster empathy, civic awareness and social responsibility through creative learning. The proposal allows students to experience first-hand how art can be a bridge between ethical reflection and collective action, addressing current challenges such as technological change, environmental degradation and human dignity. This pilot workshop is the first phase of a broader educational programme that seeks to connect creativity with human rights education.

Art and human rights

Gil's work connects directly with key principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the words of CIS University President Dr María Díaz de la Cebosa: ‘His installations and films reflect a world influenced by technological acceleration and ecological fragility, inviting students to reflect on how progress, automation and environmental degradation affect human life and dignity.’

Workshop objectives

Together with Karlos Gil, students will explore the intersection between technology, work, memory and the environment. They will be able to participate in practical processes, using recycled or found materials, to transform these ideas into visual works.

About Karlos Gil

Karlos Gil (Talavera de la Reina, 1984) is a visual artist who explores the relationship between technology, memory and nature. His installations, sculptures and audiovisual projects analyse how industrial and digital systems transform the human experience and the landscapes that surround us, both physical and emotional. His work reflects on the fragility of human presence in a world marked by acceleration, automation and obsolescence.

Gil addresses fundamental human rights issues, such as coexistence with the environment, the effects of technological change on communities and the preservation of collective memory. He has exhibited at leading institutions such as CA2M (Madrid), Centro Botín (Santander), La Panera (Lleida) and Museo Patio Herreriano (Valladolid). He currently teaches at TAI Arts University School (Madrid), contributing his experience in art education and collaborative projects, which makes him the ideal leader for this pilot workshop.
