The stories achieve a relevant space at the Madrid Book Fair

The Mexican journalist and writer, Claudia Luna Palencia, collaborator of Atalayar, gathered a good number of readers during the signing of her story “The Rescue of Pepe the Turtle.”

In prime time, the Spanish-Mexican writer, journalist and economist Claudia Luna Palencia participated in the Madrid Book Fair on Saturday 15 June at stand 37 of the Juan Rulfo Bookshop.  

The writer signed several of her books, especially the second edition of her story "The rescue of the turtle Pepe" from Editorial Algorfa, which is so much enjoyed by children and their parents.  

Her novel "The mothball club", set in Madrid in 1999 and which deals with the loneliness of the elderly in a mortgaged Spain in the midst of a real estate boom, did not go unnoticed.

The story is based on a real-life event and reflects the moment in time that Spanish society was experiencing, especially in Madrid, and which, years later, would give rise to most of the problems that still exist today.  

Luna Palencia is the granddaughter of Julián Palencia González, who was active in Almería in favour of the Republic and ended up in a forced labour camp in Bou Arfa, Algeria, for the construction of the Trans-Saharan Railway. He arrived in Mexico as a political refugee. 

She has Spanish nationality and has lived in Spain for various periods, until settling permanently in Malaga, although she works in Madrid as a journalist and correspondent at the Moncloa and is an expert on geopolitics and geo-economics.

Claudia Luna is currently president of the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia and has received several awards for her work. Those who know her define her as a "very special" person with an outstanding emotional intelligence, since she was a child she has been a student with excellent grades. She shows an empathy for her environment full of sensitivity, a deep simplicity and humility.  

Her books do not go unnoticed. The filmmaker Ana Laura Calderón, winner of an award in Spain for "Corazón de Mezquite" is making the film adaptation of the novel "The Mothball Club".  

As for her story, "The rescue of the turtle Pepe", published by Editorial Algorfa, has reached its second edition with the beautiful drawings of the talented Cristina Guzmán from Malaga.

It is a story written in rhyming verse that Luna Palencia wanted to share with her daughter Claudia Genoveva Loret de Mola, which has resulted in a sparkling story that grabs you from the very first page. 

The children end up enthralled and almost always ask their parents for a turtle as a gift. Pepe the turtle takes adults back in search of their lost childhood is a tale that narrates the adventures of a very naughty little girl, together with her favourite pet.

Next Wednesday 19th June, at 18.30, he will present the second edition of his story in Malaga at Keyzen Soho, Casas de Campos 15. The presentation will be given by the prominent Malaga journalist Manolo Reina.
