CosmoCaixa delves into volcanoes and landscapes to demonstrate the fragility of humans in the face of the Earth's forces
CosmoCaixa presents a new Neo Night in which technology, art and the most innovative culture will be combined with science. The event Neo: Forces of the Earth, volcanoes and landscapes will take place on Friday 18 February, when the centre will offer a range of activities aimed at a culturally inquisitive and curious public.
This new Neo Night will explore the forces of the Earth in relation to the arts and the most avant-garde cultural currents, with highly topical proposals that will explore science and art in relation to the geosphere and the biosphere as the driving force behind the planet's transformation. In this way, volcanoes, landscapes and the environment will become plastic materials and artistic objects to create beauty and ecological awareness, but also to transmit the fragility of humans in the face of the forces of the Earth.
Neo Night will begin with a talk between the environmentalist and artist Paula Bruna and the environmentalist Jordi Martínez Vilalta, in which some of the former's works will be shown, in which the visual arts and earth sciences are interrelated. This will be followed by a talk with the creative couple formed by Anna Díaz and Pablo Barquín, better known under the artistic name of Hamill Industries. They will talk about their latest creative project, the Slow Violence mapping, which can be seen throughout the evening on the wall on the 5th floor of CosmoCaixa, and which represents a visual exercise on geological transformation and the destruction of living ecosystems. The public will be able to experience first-hand the effects and changes produced on the Earth's surface. The Planetarium will also host the screening of Radical Compromise, a collaboration between Daniel Cervenka, Signal Production and Planetum (Prague Planetarium) which, through an immersive format, will reflect on the global environmental crisis.
The Neo Night will end with the audiovisual concert Estratoclasi, by Carlos Martorell and Adrià Grandia. The proposal becomes a sound and sensory experience that explores geological processes such as the emergence of volcanic magma with instruments such as the wheel viola or MIDI wheel viola, synthesizers and modular synthesizers, sensors and samplers.
Neo is a new, transforming and stimulating proposal for activities at CosmoCaixa. The Neo programme brings together different scientific and technological disciplines to approach the great challenges of today through the most innovative artistic forms and practices. Beyond the theme nights, the Neo programme has become a consolidated proposal of activities at CosmoCaixa.
With the aim of facilitating access for visitors, CosmoCaixa recommends planning the visit in advance, checking availability and buying tickets on the website https://cosmocaixa.org/es/neo. In this way, visitors will be able to secure access to the hall, which currently has limited capacity due to the health security measures derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. The centre, which will remain open until 10.30 p.m. in its entirety, including the cafeteria, will have a service of educators.
Likewise, all the shows, projections and activities programmed at CosmoCaixa will apply the measures of hygiene, safety and capacity of the space provided for in the official protocols.
To facilitate the purchase of tickets, the museum has prepared a pack so that attendees can access, with a single ticket, all the activities programmed for this Neo Night.
