Legacy "in memoriam" of Nobel laureate José Saramago

The Caja de las Letras of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid will receive this evening (19:00) a legacy "in memoriam" of the Portuguese Nobel Prize winner José Saramago (1922-2010) on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. The event will be attended by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa; the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta; the Secretary of State for Latin America, the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Juan Fernández Trigo; the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero; and the President of the José Saramago Foundation, the Spaniard Pilar del Río, Saramago's widow and translator of his works into Spanish, who is in charge of depositing the donation. 

The tribute takes place on 25 April, a date of great symbolism in Portugal as it commemorates the Carnation Revolution. As part of the Cervantes Week activities, the event took the form of the signing of an agreement between the Cervantes Institute and the José Saramago Foundation. 

The legacy will be followed by a round table "Homage to José Saramago" (19:30) with Carlos Reis, curator of the Saramago Year and professor at the University of Coimbra; Antonio Sáez Delgado, professor and translator at the University of Évora; as well as Pilar del Río and Luis García Montero.
