Nebrija Institute: a new academic bridge between Morocco and Spain
The inauguration of the Nebrija Institute in Casablanca represents a strategic step in the consolidation of academic relations between Morocco and Spain, as well as an opportunity to diversify the cultural education offer in the North African country.
The Nebrija Institute, the first Spanish private educational institution in Africa, has established itself in Morocco through the signing of a strategic alliance with the Segepec group, a key player in the Moroccan education sector. This expansion reinforces the international presence of the Nebrija Institute, which already extends to 10 countries (China, Indonesia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Greece, the United States and now Morocco) on four continents.
This new centre represents the first step in a far-reaching project, with the ambition of accompanying young Moroccans on their academic journey, from Casablanca to Spanish universities.
Nebrija University enriches the academic offer in Morocco
The objective of Nebrija University and its educational group with the inauguration of this new Institute, located at number 309 Boulevard Ziraoui, one of the main avenues of the city, is the promotion of Spanish and the increase of Spanish speakers in the city and its area of influence. In addition, during the 2025-2026 academic year, training is scheduled to begin for the preparation of the university entrance exam in Spain.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the institution's headquarters, was attended by authorities from the governmental, educational and business spheres of Spain and Morocco. Among the guests was Lorenzo Capellán de Toro, counsellor for Education at the Spanish Embassy in Morocco, who took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially inaugurated the centre.
Juan Padilla Fernández-Vega, general director of the Nebrija Institutes and co-manager of Nebrija Segepec, emphasised the strategic value of this opening: ‘Casablanca means a lot to us. It is a natural meeting point between two worlds that already share history, values and educational objectives. This Institute is a reflection of that firm commitment to a shared future’.
The classrooms at the Institute are characterised by their modern design, spaciousness and technological equipment. Each space is designed to offer a dynamic and up-to-date learning experience.
‘We wanted a place where learning is a pleasant, useful and stimulating experience. Technology is at the service of pedagogy,’ said Jorge Peris Díaz-Noriega, director of the Nebrija Institute in Casablanca.
‘Our mission is not only to teach a language, but to open doors at an academic, professional and cultural level. We want to be a real platform for access to quality international studies for young Moroccans,’ added the director.
For his part, Abdelaziz Lahlou Mimi, co-manager of Nebrija Segepec, the local partner in the project, pointed out that ‘this centre is the result of a shared vision: to provide Moroccan students with a rigorous and modern education, with European standards. Education is the best path to development’.
With 40 years of history and experience, the Nebrija University and its educational group, which already has international experience in a dozen countries, is starting out in Morocco, in collaboration with Segepec, with the aim of establishing a solid and lasting educational presence.
