Tangier immerses itself in jazz
Tangier will host one of the most important cultural events organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). International Jazz Day will take place for the first time in an African country, and Morocco has been chosen to organise the world concert to be held in the city of Tangiers.

Four days to dance to the rhythm of jazz
Tangier will be the capital of jazz, at least for four days. From 27 to 30 April, the Alawite city will dress up to host an event that will pay special attention to the cultural and artistic ties that unite Morocco, Europe and Africa. In fact, there will be a section on the links between Moroccan Gnaoua music and jazz.
There will be educational activities for young people of all ages, as well as a series of lectures on the history of jazz and its impact on Tangier. The concert will be the main event and will take place in the Palace of Arts and Culture, which has become one of the architectural landmarks of the entire city.
UNESCO has praised Morocco's role as a promoter of culture in the region. The communiqué issued by the organisation notes that "at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, the city of Tangier is known for being a melting pot of cultural expressions. The history of jazz is ancient and rich. Josephine Baker, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Mann and Archie Shepp were among the famous jazz artists who stayed there".
Which musicians will star in the event
The event will feature a line-up of world-class artists. The line-up for the concert christened "All-Star Global Concert" will include: the master of Gnaoua, Abdellah El Gourd (Morocco), Claudia Acuña (Chile), Ambrose Akinmusire (USA), Lakecia Benjamin (United States), Richard Bona (Cameroon), Dee Dee Bridgewater (United States), Moreira Chonguiça (Mozambique), Shemekia Copeland (United States), Kurt Elling (United States), Antonio Faraò (Italy), Melody Gardot (United States), Jazzmeia Horn (United States), JK Kim (Korea), Magnus Lindgren (Sweden), Romero Lubambo (Brazil), Marcus Miller (United States), Yasushi Nakamura (Japan) and Tarek Yamani (Lebanon).
How to follow International Jazz Day
As well as, of course, being able to attend the event in person in Tangiers, it will be broadcast live on several platforms. YouTube, Facebook and the websites of the United Nations and UNESCO will be in charge of following everything surrounding the celebration and its various venues. The intention is to provide full coverage of the four days of celebrations.
