The Three Cultures Foundation inaugurates ‘Lorca in Havana’, a new film series dedicated to literature

The sessions will take place on 1, 8, 22 and 29 April at 7.30 p.m. with free admission upon registration. After the screening there will be a discussion with the directors

The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation today opens its new film season for the month of April, focussing on the relationship between the seventh art and literature, coinciding with World Book Day on 23 April.

The programme will open with the preview of ‘Lorca en La Habana’ (at 7.30 p.m.), a documentary that covers the poet's happy days in Cuba, where he disembarked in March 1930 from New York to spend a week, although he finally remained in the Cuban capital for more than three months.

The film focuses on that period and the change it brought about for the poet, showing an image far removed from his tragic end and, at the same time, revealing to the viewer Lorca's legacy in the music, poetry and dramatic scene of the island, among other aspects.

All this will be discussed by the film's two directors, José Antonio Torres and Antonio Manuel Rodríguez, in the discussion that will take place after the screening together with the singer-songwriter Roko, creator of the documentary's music, and Lourdes Palacios, president of the Andalusian Association of Film Writers (ASECAN).

This season will continue on 8 April with ‘Blue’, a literary adaptation of The Horses of Tarquinia by Marguerite Duras, brought to the big screen by actor and director Matthieu Rozé, and which will be shown in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Seville-French Institute.

April cinema programme at Tres Culturas

After the Easter break, the Three Cultures Foundation's projectors will be switched on again on 22 April to welcome Portuguese director Carlos Gomes, who will present ‘O poeta Rei’, a journey through Portugal, Spain and Morocco in the footsteps of one of the most powerful men of his time: King Al-Mu'tamid.

A discussion will also be held with this director after the session, as will be the case on the last day of this cycle (29th April) with the Moroccan filmmaker Jamal Souissi, who will talk to us about ‘Morjana’, a story inspired by Mérimée's ‘Carmen’ that won the award for best Arab film at the 27th edition of the Alexandria Film Festival (Egypt).

All sessions will begin at 7.30 p.m. and, in the case of foreign productions, the screening will be in the original version with Spanish subtitles. Attendance is free of charge upon registration on the Foundation's website (www.tresculturas.org).
