The Three Cultures Foundation is organising an online course on 'Meetings and Disagreements in Middle East Foreign Policies"

The Three Cultures Foundation

The organisation, linked to the Ministry of the Presidency of the Andalusian Regional Government, whose objective is to promote progress and tolerance between the three cultures of the Mediterranean, is organising a telematics course for 2 February 2020. It will consist of an analysis of the foreign policies carried out by the main players currently governing the world order: the United States, the European Union, China and Russia.

The main objective of the course is for students to understand the geopolitical situation and develop a critical view of the main approaches in terms of foreign policy analysis in the Middle East. The course also includes the task of contextualizing the current situation in the Middle East from the influence exerted on the region by external actors; as well as familiarizing participants with some of the theoretical debates in terms of foreign policy analysis used to explain the political developments in the region. It is also important for the Foundation to raise awareness of the complexity of the regional scene, based on the intersection between the different levels of analysis: domestic, regional and international.

The course is designed for university participants and the public interested in the subject. The organisers stress that the course also combines readings from political science and international relations, projections, analysis of primary sources and documents, as well as practical exercises, simulations and presentations.

The duration of the course covers 30 hours in online format and its price reaches 90 euros for the general public and 80 euros for the unemployed, retired people and university students. Registration is done through the Foundation's website. The organisation points out that a series of discounts are established in the social security system. The amount of the registration fee can be discounted for students who work in private entities, managing it through FUNDAE (State Foundation for Employment Training, formerly Tripartite Foundation).

Professor Aranzazu Flores Romero will direct the course. A graduate in Political Science from Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Flores Romero has an extensive curriculum, which includes a diploma from the University of Barcelona, a Master's degree in Latin American Studies and a higher certificate in Arab Studies from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She has also spent time at the Adolfo Ibáñez University in Santiago de Chile and at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. She is an electoral observer (missions in Kyrgyzstan and Tunisia) and associate professor since 2018 at the University of Navarra and the University Loyola Andalucía.
