The Three Cultures Foundation is organising 'Reading Nights', an activity for schoolchildren
The Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean and the Institut Français of Seville are collaborating in the organisation of Reading Nights, an activity especially aimed at schoolchildren in the bilingual French section.
Created in 2017 by the French Ministry of Culture to bring together those involved in the field of books and celebrate the pleasure of reading, this year's event will take place from 19 to 23 January.
As part of Reading Nights, meetings and events will be held in various places such as libraries, bookshops, educational centres, museums, cultural and artistic institutions, associative and solidarity spaces, etc. in order to reaffirm and consolidate the essential role of books and reading for all.
Three Cultures and the Institut Français of Seville will offer two sessions of the show Telling the World, storytelling animated by Manuel Garrido (Pirates of Alexandria).
A couple of Hakawatis (storytellers) go to a very special meeting, in a very special place, summoned in a very special way. For such a special celebration, the Hakawatis have decided to seek out the best tales of the Mediterranean tradition, those that the people of their trade have told from the Straits of Gibraltar to the squares of Alexandria. In their luggage they will bring the stories that speak of equality and empowerment from their shores, such as that of Aischa and the prince, or the adventures and misadventures of Alfanhuí the king of the roofs, or the well-known stories of Yohá. In addition, the Hakawatis will pronounce the names of the living libraries that have preserved the stories over time, the women who from generation to generation have preserved the art of the word within the family, or the storytellers of the squares such as those of Jamaa el Fna or the great medina of Tunis.
The two sessions will last 50 minutes each and will be in Spanish with passages in French. They will take place on 19 January at the Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean at 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon.
Recommended ages: 8 to 10 years old.
