Three Cultures Foundation presents the screening of the documentary 'Varosha, Europe's enclosed town'

From 1 January 2026, Cyprus will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union, an excellent opportunity to learn more about this fascinating Mediterranean country

Varosha, Europe's enclosed town is the title of the documentary by Cypriot director Tonis Toumazis, who will accompany us during the screening of this film, edited in English with Spanish subtitles. Varosha, in the city of Famagusta, was a summer resort that was very popular with tourists and celebrities from all over the world who came every year to enjoy its crystal-clear waters.

Since 1974, this place has remained abandoned, becoming a ghost town where the owners of the various residences are still unable to return. Tonis Toumazis' documentary Varosha, Europe's enclosed town not only addresses the architectural and urban dimension of a place frozen in time, but also the human and social wounds resulting from the 1974 Cyprus conflict

The activity is organised by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Seville, in collaboration with the Three Cultures Foundation, the Embassy of Cyprus in Spain, the Consulate of Cyprus in Seville and the Varosha International Initiative. There are other activities dedicated to Cyprus in Seville, such as exhibitions and gastronomic experiences under the title Experience Cyprus. Culture, dialogue and taste in a European context

The documentary is in English with Spanish subtitles, while the Q&A session with the director will be in English only, without Spanish interpretation

Wednesday, 4 February7:30 p.m., at the headquarters of the Three Cultures Foundation
