Former footballer Andrés Iniesta, who scored the goal that made Spain world champions in 2010, and athletes Ana Peleteiro, three-time European triple jump champion, and María Pérez, Olympic mixed gold medallist, double world gold medallist and European race walking champion, are the new members of the honorary jury for the sixth edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards.

They join a large group of experts made up of leading figures from the world of sport and the media, such as Sandra Sánchez, Teresa Perales, Carolina Marín, Ona Carbonell, Susanna Griso, Alexia Putellas, Susana Rodríguez, Lydia Valentín, Manu Carreño, Paloma del Río, Jesús Carballo and Vicente del Bosque.

Through these awards, Iberdrola Spain seeks to highlight projects and initiatives that represent and promote women's sport and promote equality through sport. As in previous editions, they are divided into six categories, each with a prize of €50,000:

  • Supera Base, which rewards initiatives that promote grassroots sport among girls up to the age of 16.
  • Supera Competición, which recognises actions that promote the participation of women (aged 16 and over) in competition.
  • Supera Social, which recognises actions that promote the integration of women at risk of social exclusion through sport.
  • Supera Inclusión, which highlights exemplary projects for the practice of sport by people with disabilities.
  • Supera Difusión, which pays tribute to actions that convey the importance of the role of women in sport and publicise the achievements of our female athletes.
  • Supera Impulso Rural, which rewards initiatives that promote the practice of sport by girls or women in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.

The deadline for submitting nominations was 27 June. Over the coming months, each of the projects submitted will be analysed in detail and the winners will be announced at a gala event that the electricity company plans to hold during the fourth quarter of this year.

Now in their sixth edition, the Iberdrola Supera Awards have equalled the record number of entries achieved in 2024, with 1,300. In total, since the first awards in 2020, the company has received more than 5,300 projects.

Two decades promoting equality through sport

Iberdrola Spain believes that sport is one of the essential vehicles for equality. Since 2016, it has been the main promoter of women's sport. It currently supports 35 national federations and sponsors more than 100 competitions. Thanks to its commitment over the last nine years, the number of female members of these federations has increased by more than 80% to almost 820,000.

It is also promoting complementary actions, such as its Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, which brings together 35 leading sportswomen who promote female visibility and leadership in sport, whom the company seeks to give as much exposure as possible in the media and on social networks.

The electricity company's support also extends to Paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005, it has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) Support Plan for Paralympic Sport (ADOP) with the aim of providing our athletes with the best conditions to carry out their preparation and participate in all competitions with a guarantee of success.

Likewise, Iberdrola Spain, through its Foundation in Spain and together with the CPE, offers university and postgraduate scholarships to Paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP Plan. This collaboration agreement aims to facilitate the professional training of athletes with a view to their future integration into the labour market once their careers have ended.

Finally, it should be noted that the company is one of the partners of Universo Mujer, a comprehensive initiative for the development and advancement of women in society that implements actions that contribute to social transformation through the values of women's sport.
