Avangrid is leading a pilot project to apply AI in substation inspections

The robot dog is equipped with a camera that has a 30x optical zoom and an infrared camera capable of taking thermal readings.

Iberdrola, through its American subsidiary Avangrid, has launched a pioneering project to test the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in inspection work at its substations, using the mobile robot SPOT, modelled on a dog. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Levatas and Boston Dynamics, aims to speed up visual and thermal inspection tasks in substations.
