Chinese companies are looking to set up in Aragon
The president of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, and the Chinese ambassador in Spain, Yao Jing, signed a MoU before Chinese and Spanish businessmen also proceeded to sign five pre-agreements with a view to long-term cooperation and possible installation in various locations in the Aragon region, and especially in Zaragoza, of various Chinese companies.
The businessmen came from Shaoxing, a beautiful city of five million inhabitants, located to the south of the Yangtze River and, like Zaragoza, with a privileged geostrategic location from the point of view of logistics and interconnection with other large urban and industrial centres in south-east China.
The intense day of presentation and signing of documents, which took place entirely and impeccably at the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid, was opened by the Aragonese president. Jorge Azcón highlighted the progressive increase in the number of Aragonese students who are inclined towards mathematics and engineering, thus attending the trend that will mark the future leadership of the international economy. He was therefore confident that Chinese companies will come to Aragon and collaborate with companies already established in the region, given its geostrategic location, which is key for the logistics sector, and therefore for the arrival of technological projects such as those of Amazon or Microsoft, as well as the renewable energy sector, in which Aragon already has a large volume of production.
Natalia Chueca, Mayoress of Zaragoza, nailed the nail on the head by assuring that the city she governs "is experiencing a golden age of transformation", which has already turned it into a magnet for attracting companies, whose installation is favoured by the existence of abundant industrial and tertiary land at affordable prices.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador to Spain, Yao Jing, highlighted his country's economic growth of 5% in 2023, which he predicted would also be repeated in 2024, before pointing to "Spain as a preferential investment destination and business collaboration", while showing the full willingness of the Embassy in Madrid to facilitate all the means for businessmen from both countries to develop their projects and their mutual collaboration.
The authorities from Shaoxing and its province, Zheijiang, led by Wen Nuan, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee, put on a cultural and artistic show, performing various excerpts from Chinese operas such as "The Monkey King", "Shaoxing Old Wine" and songs from the Yue Opera.
The hundred or so Chinese businessmen then had the opportunity to talk informally with their Spanish colleagues and to get to know each other better, especially since a spectacular video was shown in the meantime showing the undoubted tourist attractions of Shaoxing.
