Egypt signs port agreements with Emirati AD Ports Group

Logistics company AD Ports Group has reached an agreement with the Red Sea Ports Authority over the main ports on the Egyptian coast to develop joint operations. The first contract signed allows AD Ports Group to operate in the Port of Safaga, a strategic port that could play a key role in the global supply of goods due to its prime location on the Red Sea, to operate for the Multipurpose Terminals Company, the commercial sector of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, and the management of berths and cruise ships in the ports of Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Safaga.
The deal, which is of national significance, was announced via AD Ports Group's Twitter account. The multipurpose terminal project has added value due to its strategic location on the Red Sea. When completed, the Safaga terminal will have berths of up to 1,000 metres capable of carrying general, dry and liquid cargo. In addition, as one of the key points of the agreement, the company will offer port users a wide range of maritime services, including: vessel traffic control, dangerous goods monitoring, aids to navigation, fire fighting and fire prevention, dredging, anchoring, towing, mooring and unmooring of vessels and pilotage solutions.
The signing of the agreement was attended by senior Egyptian government officials and other key figures, including Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt's Minister of Transport, Major General Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Sea Ports Authority, Rear Admiral Abdel Qader Darwish, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Multipurpose Terminals Group, and Saif al-Mazrouei, CEO of the Ports Cluster, AD Ports Group. At the end of the agreement signing ceremony, El-Wazir said: "These agreements are in line with the instructions of His Excellency Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, aiming to make Egypt a global trade and logistics hub through the development of Egyptian Ports on the shores of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, and constructive cooperation between Egyptian and UAE ports".
According to the second agreement reached, which focuses on matters of development, operation and management of berths and cruise terminals in the ports of Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Safaga, the aim of these ports will be to support and collaborate in the expansion of cruise tourism in Egypt. Based on what has been signed, AD Ports Group can carry out projects that will help to improve the experience of tourists and visitors arriving in the African country. The agreements, which were eventually signed by Major General Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of AD Ports Group. Abdel Rahim, chairman of the board of directors of the Red Sea Ports Authority and Saif al-Mazrouei, CEO of Ports Cluster, AD Ports Group, join a long list of successful negotiations between Egypt and this port company that aim to support the growth of the industrial and logistics sectors in the Middle East, and collaborate to open new markets to export Egyptian products through various direct shipping routes across the Gulf, East Asian and African regions.
