Etihad Airways named second safest airline in the world
AirlineRatings, a famous portal known for publishing an annual list of the international airlines with the highest level of safety in all areas, has ranked Etihad Airways in second place. In this way, the Emirati airline has been showered with accolades confirming the safety of the airline. It also raises the reputation of Emirati products and spreads the UAE brand around the world, which may attract future buyers interested in the services offered by the company.
At the top of the list, Air New Zealand takes the podium. "Air New Zealand is an airline noted for its strong focus on safety and customers, while COVID-19 has brought a new dimension to the challenges facing the industry over the past 18 months," said Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of the RT newspaper, which reported the data published by the online ranking portal.
In addition to Etihad Airways' good performance, companies from Arab countries are positioning themselves in the top positions offered by the rankings that rate them among the world's best brands. Qatar Airways takes third place in this list, which means that two Arab firms are in the top three of the best airlines. This is followed by Singapore Airlines and TAP Air Portugal in fourth and fifth place respectively.
The ranking is followed by SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System), Qantas Airlines Limited, Alaska Airlines, EVA Airlines and Virgin Australia/Atlantic. On the other hand, and in worst position, occupying places between 11 and 20 on the list, are Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Lufthansa/Swiss Group, Finnair, Air France/KLM Group, British Airways, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Emirates Airlines.
In addition to this annual list, AirlineRatings also published another list of the ten safest low-cost airlines to fly in 2022, consisting of Allegiant, Easyjet, Frontier, Jetstar Group, Jetblue, Ryanair, Vietjet, Volaris, Westjet and Wizz.
This portal is the only one in the world capable of ranking airlines and their flight safety. In total, the company studies 385 different airlines, and when publishing its data, it bases itself on a number of factors, including accidents within five years, serious accidents in the last two years, government audits, and the seniority of its operators. Added to this is the global pandemic situation, where measures taken to deal with the coronavirus are now one of the main assessment requirements. Etihad Airways, for its part, appreciates what the security measures mean for passengers.
"The safety and security factor has always been at the top of our priorities and is an established factor in all sections of our business, and is no longer just an operational measure that puts safety first, but has evolved to include health and safety, especially after our success in overcoming the obstacles that arose with the pandemic to ensure the health and safety of our guests. As new types of viruses and new variants spread around the world, we must be more stringent and careful to ensure the safety of travellers," says the airline.
Etihad Airways is based in Abu Dhabi, with thousands of flights operating across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. In the aftermath of the pandemic, it is one of the few airlines to have devised a programme to respond to passengers' safety questions and needs. The company developed the Wellness programme, available 24 hours a day, with advice on how to stay safe during the journey and with a crew that monitors and ensures that all health and hygiene measures are complied with, both inside the aircraft and at the airport where the airline operates.
