Five Moroccan regions register a GDP per capita above the national average

These are Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laayoune-Saguia El Hamra, Casablanca-Settat, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra  

According to a report by the Moroccan High Commissioner for Planning, in 2022, five regions recorded a gross domestic product per capita above the national average, estimated at 36,284 dirhams. 

These regions are Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (80,996 dirhams), Laayoune-Saguia El Hamra (71,246 dirhams), Casablanca-Settat (54,997 dirhams), Guelmim-Oued Noun (44,432 dirhams) and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (43,124 dirhams). 

The agency also explained that the gross domestic product per capita ranges from 22,730 dirhams in the Marrakech-Safi region to 35,641 dirhams in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.  

The dispersion of gross domestic product per capita decreased slightly, as the average absolute difference went from 14,617 dirhams in 2021 to 14,552 dirhams in 2022.  

On the other hand, the High Commissioner for Planning reported that household final consumption expenditure, at the national level, amounted to 816 billion dirhams. Specifically, in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Fez-Meknes it accounted for about two-thirds of these expenditures (62.9%), with rates of 25.3%, 14.7%, 11.5% and 11.5%, respectively.

The regions of Marrakech-Safi (11.3%), Souss-Massa (7.2%) and the Oriental region (7%) accounted for about a quarter of household final consumption expenditure (25.4%), while the five regions contributed the remaining 11.7%, ranging from 0.7% for the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region to 5.4% for the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region. 

Differences in consumption expenditures have intensified, as the average absolute disparity between household final consumption expenditures in various regions and average household final consumption at the national level reached 44.2 billion dirhams in 2022, compared to 40.7 billion dirhams in 2021.

On the other hand, in terms of per capita final consumption expenditure, six regions recorded expenditure rates above the national average, reaching 22,253 dirhams in 2022.    

These are the regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (31,316 dirhams), Casablanca-Settat (27,128 dirhams), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (24,147 dirhams), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (24,052 dirhams), Laayoune-Saguia El Hamra (23,308 dirhams) and the Oriental province (22,640 dirhams).
