Iberdrola acquires Autonomous Energy, one of Australia's leading Smart Solutions companies
Iberdrola expands its presence in Australia with the acquisition of Autonomous Energy, one of Australia's leading providers of smart solutions and behind-the-meter technology.
This is a new operation that endorses the company's global projection and its commitment to the energy transition.
Since 2020, Iberdrola has acquired Infigen Energy (now Iberdrola Australia), a vertically integrated renewable energy company with 940 MW of installed capacity. It has also incorporated Avonlie, a 245 MW (dc) photovoltaic project in New South Wales; and has also reached the Final Investment Decision on major development projects such as Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park (PAREP), a 320 MW hybrid wind/solar plant in South Australia and Avonlie Solar Farm. Iberdrola also has a portfolio of more than 2GW of projects in Australia in various technologies, at different stages of development and located in the states of New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.
This new acquisition contributes to Iberdrola's long-term growth ambitions in Australia, positioning it as a comprehensive provider of green energy solutions focused on its Australian commercial and industrial customers. Customers will have access to integrated and optimised green energy solutions that will reduce their energy costs and emissions and improve their sustainability performance.
Founded in 2003, Autonomous Energy is an engineering and construction company offering a wide range of green energy solutions. These solutions include rooftop solar, solar car park shading, ground mount solar PV, battery storage, microgrids, energy efficiency and energy management.
In November 2021, Autonomous Energy received the Clean Energy Council's Solar Design and Installation Award for the 78kw PV system mounted on the roof of a 139m high skyscraper in the city of Sydney. This project enabled the client to maintain a 6 Green Star rating with the Building Council of Australia and demonstrated that distributed generation technologies can be commercially applied to highly complex sites.
Autonomous Energy has successfully delivered over one hundred projects to Australia's leading commercial and industrial customers. These customers include globally recognised brands in sectors such as industry, agriculture, universities, schools, local government, banking, property management and mobility and transport.
This global commitment is also underpinned by Iberdrola's track record in corporate transactions. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, Iberdrola has completed 28 corporate transactions, 15 of which have been acquisitions. Many of these acquisitions have enabled the company to enter new geographies such as Sweden, Ireland, Poland, Japan and Australia.
