The energy group reaches 41,246 MW of renewable energy, which represents a growth of 6.5% in the last 12 months

Iberdrola increases its renewable production by 5.7%, thanks to investments in clean energies

Iberdrola

Iberdrola remains faithful to its commitment to promoting the energy transition as the only way to accelerate decarbonisation and eliminate dependence on fossil fuels. Accordingly, the company has increased its installed renewable capacity by 6.5% worldwide in the last 12 months, to 41,246 MW, according to data published by the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).

Thanks to investments in renewables and new installed capacity, in the first half of the year the company has managed to increase its own production with clean energy by 5.7% compared to the same period last year, to 42,756 GWh.

Its commitment to clean energy has led to strong growth in Iberdrola's photovoltaic capacity, which has increased by almost 45% in the last 12 months - with 1,543 MW of new installed capacity - and will reach almost 5,000 MW by the end of the first half of 2023.

Also noteworthy is the growth in wind energy, where the group strengthens its global leadership. Onshore wind grew by 4.5% in the last twelve months to 20,577 MW, while offshore wind increased by 8.9% to 1,370 MW at the end of June 2023.

Among the most significant milestones in the quarter, last week Iberdrola connected to the French grid the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, which it is building in the waters off Brittany, France. Saint-Brieuc is the first large-scale offshore wind project in Brittany and the second in France to produce clean energy.

In line with the company's commitment to decarbonisation, Iberdrola's renewable capacity has improved in most of the countries where the company operates: Brazil (+12%), Spain (+6.3%), the United States (+2.5%) and the rest of the world, where renewable capacity has grown by 25%.

In this way, the Iberdrola group is making progress on its historic investment plan of 47,000 million euros between 2023 and 2025, with which it aims to reach 52,000 MW of installed renewable capacity by 2025, with a special focus on offshore wind power, where the company plans to invest more than 11,000 million euros by 2026.

One of the cleanest wind farms in the world

The greater contribution of renewable energies has led Iberdrola to raise its emission-free production ratio to 83%, a percentage that in the case of Spain rises to 89%. Thus, the group maintains its levels about two thirds lower than those of its European competitors.

In terms of installed capacity, the investments made by the company mean that more than 81% of its own power is emission-free, a percentage that reaches 91% in the United States, 90% in Brazil and zero in the United Kingdom, where it is 100% green.
