The company adjacent to the Spanish airline Iberia, Iberia Express, has announced this week the start of a new route that will connect the capital of Spain, Madrid and Marrakech, one of the most emblematic cities of Morocco, starting on October 29.

The company announced in a statement that there will be two daily flights, seven days a week, to maintain the connection between the two cities. The introduction of this line is a component of the company's strategy to expand its global operations. With the introduction of this new line, Iberia Express joins the more than 10 airlines that connect Morocco with Spain, where the two most important are Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and Iberia.

It operates short- and medium-distance routes to incorporate the parent company's long-distance network and operate in the low-cost market. As flight expenses decrease and there are more flights to Marrakech, Morocco's main tourist destination, the city will become more attractive to visitors from Europe.

The number of visitors to Morocco's southernmost tourist destination has increased significantly this year. The number of visitors increased by 63% at the end of the first five months of this year compared to 2019, according to information from the Marrakech Regional Tourism Office.

The Iberia Express company offers flights to more than 40 domestic and foreign locations with a fleet of 23 aircraft. During the winter of 2023, the airline will also see an increase in operations to most domestic and foreign destinations, with route reinforcements between November 2023 and March 2024. The airline's main international destinations include Israel, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland and Greece. At the national level, the connection of the Peninsula with the Canary Islands is the main focus of the company.

The airline will not only offer trips from Madrid, but, in the words of the Director of Network and Programs of Iberia Express, Jorge Jiménez, the company will not lose sight of its position in relevant national markets such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, where they continue to consolidate their operations.

In addition, he added that the airline also thinks about international growth as the union between the capital of Egypt, Cairo and Marrakech, two places, which according to the director, are very sought after that they expect to receive “overwhelmingly positive feedback from their customers”, a fact that the company, from the inside, celebrate as a “great triumph”.
