Indra Air Traffic Inc. renews the US Air Force's portable tactical navigation systems

United States Air Force - Indra
The US Air Force has selected the US company's technology to replace its Man-Portable TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation System) systems

Indra Air Traffic Inc., a US company belonging to the Indra Group, one of the world's leading defence, aerospace and advanced digital technology companies, has been awarded a contract by the US Air Force to renew its Man-Portable (MP) TACAN military air navigation systems, with a ceiling of 198,360, 000 and a completion deadline of 2032.

The contract with the U.S. Air Force includes the design, engineering, commissioning and technical maintenance, as well as possible future upgrades of the portable TACAN systems, a variant of Indra's TACAN solution, which provide accurate and reliable information for military and civil aircraft navigation.

The portable TACAN is designed to operate in adverse environments and is easily transportable by two people. This technology, crucial for the rapid deployment of units and operations in complex missions, ensures effectiveness even in the absence of GNSS and/or GPS signals. The MP TACAN system provides navigation services at improvised airfields or restores services after natural disasters, unforeseen situations or attacks.

The design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly of these systems, which are critical for today's combatants, will be carried out at Indra Air Traffic Inc.'s centre of excellence for air navigation aid systems in the United States. These facilities in Overland Park, Kansas, have received the “Made in Kansas” programme seal, awarded by the Kansas Department of Commerce.

‘We work daily to develop efficient solutions that guarantee maximum safety and operability in complex environments. It is an honour that the United States Air Force trusts Indra's systems to ensure its missions around the world. Our commitment to this contract will be reflected in the successful delivery of the MP TACAN systems,’ said Bill Colligan, CEO of Indra Air Traffic Inc.

Javier Ruano, the company's Director of ATM Development in the United States, said that ‘this contract, together with the one awarded last year to renew the Federal Aviation Administration's ground-to-air communications system, is a success for our American company and encourages us to redouble our commitment to the US market, where we offer innovative solutions that meet its needs.’

This new contract with the U.S. Air Force is a major boost for Indra Air Traffic Inc. in the US market, where it is consolidating its position as one of the strongest companies in military and civil air traffic management, with advanced solutions that guarantee maximum reliability and compliance with the highest quality standards for customers such as the US Air Force, Navy, Army and Federal Aviation Administration.
