Indra Group acquires Wake Engineering's unmanned aerial systems technology
Indra Group has reached an agreement with the CPS Group to acquire Wake Engineering's unmanned systems (UAS) technology, with the aim of further strengthening its position in this market and accelerating the development of capabilities to respond to Special Modernisation Programmes and the enormous potential for international growth in this field.
The company is thus accelerating its response to the Special Modernisation Programme (PEM), for which pre-financing has been approved for Indra, which includes the supply of 49 medium-range Class I UAS, some of them with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) technology.
Wake is a CPS Group company whose main activity is the design, development and production of UAS and already has flight-tested prototypes equipped with VTOL technology. Its design could be integrated with the avionics and mission systems of the Indra Group's TARSIS family of unmanned aerial systems. This will enable all systems to share a common technological base in order to offer high-capacity intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to support the Armed Forces.
With the acquisition of Wake's UAS technology, Indra Group strengthens its Indra Weapons & Ammunitions division, which focuses on the development of unmanned vehicles, anti-drone systems, precision guidance and directed energy systems. The operation not only contributes to ensuring national technological sovereignty in the field of drones, but also positions the Spanish industry for short-term international opportunities where there is a preference for VTOL vertical take-off and landing solutions, such as in the naval field, as well as in the civil field, with great potential for future growth.
The company thus continues to position itself to compete for contracts under the ReArm Europe plan, worth €800 billion, which identifies UAS as a strategic solution. Earlier this year, Indra Group acquired Aertec Defence & Aerial Systems, adding its TARSIS family of tactical systems to Indra's offering.
