Alliance between Indra Group and EDGE
Indra Group, a world leader in information technology, aerospace, defence and mobility systems, and EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a preliminary step towards the creation of a new joint venture in Spain dedicated to the development, production and maintenance of loitering munitions and smart weapons for the Spanish, European and certain international markets, including possible cooperation on defence programmes in Europe.
Signing of the MoU at the Dubai Airshow
Ángel Escribano, Executive Chairman of Indra Group, and José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group, together with Hamad Al-Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, formally signed the MoU at the Dubai Airshow to launch this initiative.
Industrial and technological capabilities
The vision is that the joint venture's engineering and industrial capabilities will be backed by Indra's extensive industrial presence in Spain, which is undergoing significant expansion to meet growing demand. At the same time, the joint venture would benefit from EDGE's technology and expertise in loitering munitions.
Executive statements
Ángel Escribano, Executive Chairman of Indra Group, said: ‘This alliance would bring together complementary capabilities, expertise and commercial reach in the loitering munitions and smart weapons segments to deliver world-class solutions to our customers.’
Hamad Al-Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, commented: ‘EDGE has built an agile industrial ecosystem capable of responding quickly to new opportunities and delivering export-ready solutions rapidly. Our collaboration with Indra reflects not only a long-standing relationship based on trust and shared ambition, but also a strategic pathway to expand our presence in European markets through joint innovation and advanced manufacturing.’
José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group, stated: ‘By establishing both engineering and production capabilities in Europe, we would ensure sovereignty and enhance commercial opportunities on the continent.’
Benefits of smart weapons and loitering munitions
The development of smart weapons and loitering munitions would provide operational forces on the modern battlefield with unprecedented flexibility. They enable attacks on hidden targets that appear for short periods without exposing high-value platforms near the target area.
Collaboration between the UAE and Spain
This potential new collaboration seeks to strengthen the growing industrial and technological partnership between the UAE and Spain, combining Indra's extensive experience in defence systems and its access to European and NATO markets with EDGE's rapid development model and advanced engineering capabilities to deliver high-performance, export-ready solutions to global customers.
New impetus for strategic collaboration
The new partnership would give new impetus to the strategic collaboration between Indra and EDGE. In 2024, the two companies established PULSE NOVA, a joint venture focused on the engineering, development, manufacture, integration and maintenance of existing and future radar systems and their components, as well as their commercialisation in high-potential markets, opening up new international business opportunities.
