Indra Group becomes a European leader in space: it closes the acquisition of 89.68% of Hispasat and achieves a majority stake in Hisdesat
Indra Group has become one of the main players in the space sector in Europe following the formal closure of the acquisition of 89.68% of Hispasat's share capital. The transaction allows Indra Group to achieve a controlling stake in Hisdesat and consolidate that company into the group.
Representatives of Indra Group and Redeia have formalized the closing of the sale, once the conditions precedent, which are essentially regulatory in nature, necessary in the different countries in which Hispasat operates, have been met, and after the transaction was approved by the Council of Ministers on December 16 and by the Indra Group's General Shareholders' Meeting on November 28.
The executive chairman of Indra Group, Ángel Escribano, highlights that: "With this transaction, we are taking a new step towards our goal of making Indra Group a unique player in Europe in the space sector, with end-to-end capabilities across the entire value chain and civil and military impact. As operators of high-tech satellites, Hispasat and Hisdesat will help us increase our capabilities in secure communications, satellite and constellation manufacturing, and satellite solutions, with critical applications in defense and national security, but also in services aimed at the civil sector."
The Indra Group is positioned as a key player in programs such as IRIS², which is crucial for secure communications in Europe, as well as SpainSat NG and PAZ. It also plays an essential role in key European infrastructures such as Copernicus, Galileo, and EGNOS, in Earth observation, surveillance, and advanced space services.
The company aims to expand its leadership by capitalizing on future opportunities such as Space Surveillance, LEO PNT, and next-generation Earth Observation programs, and by promoting upcoming strategic programs such as Signal Intelligence or SEOT for optical Earth observation.
The integration of Hispasat and the consolidation of Hisdesat generate significant synergies for the growth of Indra Group's operations and revenues. By standardizing elements such as avionics, satellite links, and other components, Indra Group will streamline production and achieve industrialized manufacturing at scale, enabling it to meet the growing demand for miniaturized satellites and positioning the company at the forefront of future satellite technology.
