Indra's state-of-the-art ticketing technology opens the doors to Riyadh's recently inaugurated metro system
Indra's ticketing technology, one of the most advanced in the market, is already in operation in the first three recently inaugurated lines of Riyadh's Metro and in the next months it will be extended to the other three lines, which means a complete network of 176 kilometres and 85 stations.
Indra's technology is already operating in the fleet of more than 800 buses, conventional bus stops and exclusive Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines throughout the city, as it is also part of the contract the company was awarded to implement its automatic ticketing and access control solutions throughout Riyadh's public transport network for 266 million euros.
The new equipment for the Metro is now integrated with the central system serving the bus network, providing passengers with an integrated, intermodal end-to-end journey on the same ticket.
The new information and ticket vending machines installed in the Riyadh Metro network are an innovative solution that Indra has developed ‘ad hoc’ for this project, with the aim of providing users with the best travel experience. Designed with an avant-garde aesthetic and usability similar to that of a smartphone, the technology incorporates a touch screen that allows users to interact easily and access information such as maps, timetables or multimedia content.
As for the access control steps, they reduce the sensation of a barrier thanks to the use of transparent elements and to the fact that they allow ticket validation, both with the transport card and with the mobile phone, bank card or smartwatch.
The equipment designed by Indra for BRT and conventional bus stops is prepared to withstand Riyadh's weather conditions, as it is resistant to temperatures above 60ºC and is protected against dust and water.
Sustainable mobility with social impact
With its advanced technology for Riyadh's public transport network, Indra focuses on guaranteeing the best traveller's experience and contributing to the important impact the project has on the quality of life of the citizens by reducing traffic congestion and polluting emissions, among other things.
Saudi Arabia's commitment to provide this city with an advanced, intermodal and sustainable urban mobility network will allow its almost eight million citizens to move around the 1,800 km2 of the capital with greater ease, comfort and safety.
Indra's Mobility business won another transformative mobility project this year to manage the complete ticketing system for Ireland's tram, bus, and national rail network, as well as the future Dublin Metro, reaffirming its ability to manage complex projects.
Indra is one of the world's leading ticketing companies, with major references in cities such as Madrid, St. Louis, Lisbon and Amsterdam.
It also has a unique track record in Mobility, with more than 2,500 mobility projects developed worldwide, and has become one of the most important technology companies in the railway sector with end-to-end solutions that have already been or are being implemented in projects for the Spanish railway network, the Mecca-Medina high-speed line in Saudi Arabia or the Lithuanian network, among others.
