Marrakech prepares for the 2030 World Cup
The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, highlighted the international prestige of Marrakech and said that the city has all the necessary qualities to host world-class events such as World Cup matches.
According to Morocco World News, these statements were made on 17 July during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit to review the progress of preparations for the 2030 World Cup.
Lekjaa stressed that Marrakech's infrastructure and historical heritage will be key factors in the organisation of future global events, including the 2030 World Cup. He also mentioned that the city has hosted prestigious events in recent years, such as the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
During the meeting, Laftit urged all actors involved to make every effort to mobilise essential financial and human resources in order to accelerate the pace of preparations. He also emphasised the importance of completing a comprehensive preparation campaign to make the city ready for the 2030 World Cup.
Minister Laftit also stressed that the meeting is part of a series of similar meetings held in different Moroccan cities that will also host World Cup matches. Earlier this month, Lekjaa and Laftit held a related meeting in Rabat to discuss the campaign to prepare for global events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
At the Rabat meeting, Lekjaa highlighted the potential of the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex, noting that it will be ready by the end of this year with a capacity of 65,000 spectators. This sports complex will be one of the stadiums that will host the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Marrakech's dedication to organising and hosting major events promises to boost the development dynamics that the city is experiencing on multiple levels, consolidating its reputation as a top global destination. With these efforts, the city of Marrakech not only positions itself as a leading candidate for the 2030 World Cup, but also demonstrates its ability to host international events, contributing significantly to the growth and modernisation of Morocco as a whole.
