Marruecos se prepara para recibir el turismo israelí durante la Pascua
The Easter holiday is drawing ever closer and millions of people around the world are preparing to enjoy their holidays. This year, moreover, Christian Easter coincides with Passover and Ramadan. Israelis have been preparing their holidays for some time now and, taking advantage of the restoration of relations, Morocco has become one of the favourite destinations for the Jewish people who want to rest during the holiday.
Morocco is preparing for a massive influx of Israeli tourists to the area. According to the Moroccan daily La Vie Éco, 'thousands of Moroccan Jews settled in Israel might like to spend the holiday in Morocco'. This would be very good news for the Alawi country, which is slowly beginning to recover from the effects of Omicron and the Moroccan government's decision to close its borders.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has also commented on the matter, noting that it is "aware of the opportunity to attract Israeli tourists to the territory". The ONMT is also in Tel Aviv promoting direct flights between Marrakesh and Tel Aviv with the Israir airline, as a reason for unity and cordiality between the two countries.
Adel El Fakir, director of the Moroccan organisation, has signed an agreement with the airline that will soon see Israir start twice-weekly flights from its Tel Aviv hub to Marrakech and vice versa. "The Israir group is one of the most important tourism players in Israel. Thanks to this partnership, we will quickly attract a significant flow of customers from this strategic market," El Fakir said in a statement to the press.
Thanks to this, and coinciding with this time of year, Israelis are already being tempted by the television media. They are promoting Morocco as a tourist destination, advertising various reasons why they should choose the Kingdom. This is not just to make the Alawi kingdom a holiday destination, but to present its attractiveness for other types of travel, be it business, religious, leisure or otherwise. In doing so, the ONMT aims to establish new business partnerships with Israeli companies as well.
The ONMT also represented Morocco at the International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM), which is the largest event for the tourism sector in the Hebrew country. "Our first participation was conclusive on several levels. It was important for the office to support Moroccan operators to attract new partners and establish models of collaboration to activate tourism flows in this high potential market," said El Fakir after the event. El Fakir tras el evento.
The Abraham Accords under US supervision have resulted in the two nations cooperating amicably and this is being reflected over time. During these two years and in the case of tourism, other airlines have wanted to start establishing routes between the two countries, such as Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and El Al Israel Airlines (EL AL), which have just signed an agreement to start developing direct flights between the two destinations.
The recovery of the tourism and hospitality sector is one of the key issues for the Alawi government at the moment. The North African nation was forced to close all types of borders in November last year after the rapid spread of the Omicron variant and how easy it was to catch the virus. The setback came after the closure coincided with the Christmas season. This is a holiday season and thousands of people are looking to return to their homeland or others just to spend the holiday away from home. Hotels were already preparing when everything had to be cancelled, which meant that the sector had to make do with the situation and record figures only seen during the first months of the coronavirus in the world.
