Marruecos: 17,5 millones de turistas para generar 11.000 millones de euros

Reaching 17.5 million tourists and generating 11 billion in foreign currency are two of the main objectives of the road map for the tourism sector announced in Rabat by the Moroccan government for a four-year period ending in 2026.

These objectives are complemented by the intention to create 200,000 direct and indirect jobs between 2023 and 2026, according to the President of the Moroccan government.

Aziz Akhannouch recalled that Morocco has had global exposure thanks to the successes of Walid Regragui's national team during the World Cup in Qatar, and it has recently emerged that Morocco will join forces with Spain and Portugal to submit a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Both factors project Morocco's image on the international stage and encourage tourists to include the North African country among their possible travel preferences.

For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahra Ammor, stressed that the roadmap should serve to reposition tourism as a key sector in the national economy and set her department's ambitions at achieving 26 million tourists by 2030.

To achieve this, Ammor includes in the strategy a plan to double air capacity and facilitate the arrival of tourists, the promotion of hotel construction, and the development of promotional campaigns with special emphasis on the digital world.

As a vector of particular importance, the head of the tourism portfolio highlighted the care of the "customer experience", which is at the basis of loyalty.

Morocco received 11 million tourists in 2022, which represents a recovery rate of 84% compared to the figures obtained in 2019. This recovery rate is higher than the world average of 63%. In terms of foreign exchange turnover, tourism saw an increase of 116% last year compared to 2019.
