Morocco and Catalonia strengthen their economic ties
Foment del Treball Nacional de Catalunya and the Moroccan-Spanish Economic Council (CEMAES) are strengthening economic and trade ties with Morocco through a business and institutional mission sent to Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca.
The Catalan employers' association will meet with several senior Moroccan officials as part of a trade mission led by Josep Sánchez Llibre, president of Foment del Treball, and made up of around thirty Catalan businesspeople, who will be in Morocco from 27 to 29 May.
The Catalan economic and trade delegation will visit the cities of Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca, and will hold high-level meetings with political authorities and representatives of the Moroccan economic and business world.
The initiative is organised by CEMAES and, according to information from Foment del Treball Nacional, ‘seeks to promote investment and cooperation opportunities in sectors such as the automotive industry, technological innovation, infrastructure, finance and trade’. The mission will include meetings with the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Investment Centre (CRI-TTA), the Moroccan Ministry of Investment (MICEPP) and Casablanca Finance City (CFC), as well as visits to strategic industrial infrastructure such as Tangier Automotive City and Tecnópolis de Nouaceur, according to the Catalan business association.
A total of thirty businesspeople have been included in the expedition, representing strategic sectors with high potential for collaboration between Catalonia and Morocco. These include firms specialising in international logistics and customs management, companies in the chemical sector focused on exports and sustainable innovation, and engineering and construction companies linked to infrastructure, industry and railways. Also participating are technology companies with digital solutions (SaaS) and industrial manufacturers of technical products such as plastic mesh and film, interested in expanding or establishing themselves in the Maghreb region.
Foment del Treball Nacional (National Labour Promotion) is the main employers' organisation in Catalonia. It has collective partners (associations and regional and sectoral entities, both directly and indirectly); individual partners (multinationals, large, medium and small companies); and collaborating members (foreign chambers of commerce, professional associations, business institutes, etc.).
It is therefore a highly relevant organisation representing the business, economic and commercial fabric of a Spanish autonomous community as important as Catalonia. With this economic and commercial mission focused on Catalonia, Foment del Treball seeks long-term business alliances, bringing together the productive ecosystems of Catalonia and Morocco, and promoting a stable platform for interregional dialogue between Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Catalan mission in Morocco also includes networking opportunities with the participation of important authorities such as Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade of Morocco, Omar Moro, President of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Younis Tazi, Governor of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, and Enrique Ojeda Vila, Spanish Ambassador to Morocco.
