Marruecos construirá una planta de almacén y reciclaje de aviones en desuso
Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) has called for international tenders to build and operate a centre for the storage, disassembly and recycling of retired airplanes on the grounds of Oujda-Angad airport, in the north-east of the country.
This new project will be built on an initial 10- hectares area in the airport's customs custody zone, and could be extended in the future to 54 hectares, according to tender documents consulted by Efe.
The centre will be responsible for the storage, dismantling and recycling of aircraft, and the future holders of the contract will have a period of two years to store each aircraft; after that time, they will have to proceed to dismantle them and pay a penalty. According to the document, the tender documents will be opened on June 8 in the morning.
Due to the effects of the pandemic and environmental requirements, a large part of the air fleet of all countries has been rendered unusable, which has generated a new demand to "park" the newest aircraft and dismantle those with more flight miles.
The international civil aviation organisation IATA estimates that airlines will lose 15.8 billion dollars this year due to the sharp drop in air traffic.
