CPI falls by 0.1% in October compared to the previous month, but core inflation rises by 0.3%

Morocco continues to see a rise in prices, but manages to slow the rise

While prices continue to rise around the world, Morocco is trying to ensure that the rise is at least not as rapid as it has been for more than a year and a half now, when the war in Ukraine started a domino effect of crises that has not yet ceased. First came the economic crisis resulting from the pandemic, only to be hit again, this time by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, before the world's coffers had yet to recover.

Since then, the rise has slowed, but not stopped. There is talk of an increasingly gradual rise in prices, but not of a decrease, which, if it continues, could plunge dozens of economies into a critical situation, if it is not already critical for many of them. However, Morocco is implementing measures that, in view of the data, are succeeding in preventing the feared exponential rise in prices, and even reducing the consumer price index (CPI).

However, when compared to the same month last year, the increase is very large. The rise in the CPI is 4.3%, largely due to the increase in the price of the shopping basket. The rise in foodstuffs alone is 8.8% compared with October 2022. This is one of the most worrying aspects, not only in Morocco, but also at the international level, as this is where society is suffering the most.
