Morocco's tourism revenues grew by 8% to 87.1 billion dirhams (8.65 billion dollars) in September, compared to 80.4 billion dirhams (7.99 billion dollars) recorded in the same month last year, according to figures reported by Morocco World News.

Morocco's Tourism Observatory has revealed positive data on the sector's performance, highlighting a 10% increase in the volume of overnight stays in classified tourist establishments at the end of April. The agency attributed this growth to a 16% increase in overnight stays by international tourists.

However, domestic tourism has seen a slight decline of 2%.

Between January and September, tourist arrivals at Morocco's border crossing points reached approximately 13.1 million, representing a remarkable 18% increase compared to the same period last year. Several countries contributed to this evolution, with a notable increase in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain.

In terms of airport capacity, five airports experienced significant increases in the number of arrivals. Among them, Marrakech-Menara Airport stood out.

Agadir Al Massira Airport ranked second, with a 35% increase, followed by Tangier Ibn Battouta and Fez Saiss airports, which also recorded significant increases.

Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport experienced more moderate growth, with a 7% increase, the data show.

In September, tourist arrivals reached 1.28 million, an increase of 33% compared to the previous year.

These data add to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism in October, which reveal a solid performance of the tourism sector.

According to the ministry, Morocco received a total of 14.6 million visitors up to October this year, surpassing the number of arrivals the country recorded in the same period last year.

Morocco aims to reach 15 million visitors by the end of this year, with the ambition to reach 17 million by 2026.

To achieve these objectives, the Moroccan government has launched several initiatives and mobilised institutions such as the National Tourism Office, in order to consolidate the country as one of the main tourist destinations globally.
