Movistar doubles the number of products and services contracted online

Movistar reached a total of 3.5 million online product and service contracts at the end of last year, which is double the 1.8 million contracts recorded at the end of the previous year, according to data published by the company.

The company pointed out that this growth has been motivated by the situation generated by the coronavirus pandemic and especially by the confinements and restrictions on mobility aimed at reducing the spread of the virus.

The company highlighted that the most popular online products are those related to entertainment, such as Movistar+ Lite or Disney+, as well as football packages that include La Champions League and La Liga.

On the other hand, the company stated that there has also been a 23% increase in operations without calls to the Movistar telephone channel or the intervention of an agent (activation of services on mobile lines or Movistar+, self-installation of routers or self-management of personal data).

With regard to digital attention, the firm also increased this section as a result of the coronavirus, especially through social networks, to grow by 30.6% in 2020 compared to 2019.

In addition, the company indicated that the increases in the use of the online channel derived from the situation generated by the coronavirus have also been detected in the use of Movistar networks, which have experienced an "unusual" increase in their use.

Thus, mobile data traffic saw increases of more than 50% between the peaks of 2019 and 2020, while on the fixed network IP (data) network there was an average growth of 27% between 2019 and 2020, reaching a peak growth of 47% in April 2020 compared to the same month in 2019.
