Oman reinforces its commitment to tourism

The Omani ambassador to Spain has signed an agreement with the World Tourism Organization to host the meeting of its regional committee for the Middle East

The tourism sector represents one of the main bets for the economic and social development of what is known as the Oman 2040 Plan that envisages greater collaboration between neighboring countries in the region to achieve a substantial increase in economic activity linked to the arrival and spending of tourists.

The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, has signed an agreement with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to host the fiftieth meeting of the Regional Committee for the Middle East of this organization that belongs to the United Nations.

Oman's ambassador to Spain, Omar al Kathiri, stressed the importance of the agreement signed today with Basmah Al Mayman, regional director for the Middle East of the UNWTO, and assured that his country is making a strong commitment to develop the tourism sector in line with the objectives of the Oman 2040 plan.

In turn, the regional director of World Tourism stressed the importance of the meeting that will take place in Oman in May to publicize the progress of the sector in this region of the world.

Al Mayman, has assured that the celebration of the next meeting in Oman is a clear example of the advances that the sultanate is experiencing in this sector.

In addition, the meeting will serve to enhance cooperation between the countries of the region in order to contribute to the development of the tourism sector.

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is hosting the 50th meeting of the United Nations Tourism Organization's Regional Committee for the Middle East and the Tourism Investment Conference to discuss the opportunities and challenges of sustainable financing from May 22 to 24.
