Rabat is one of the best tourist destinations for 2024

Morocco is experiencing an excellent growth in tourist arrivals. Since the lifting of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alawite kingdom has become a favourite destination for European tourists in particular. Marrakech, one of the country's most attractive cities, has now been joined by the capital, Rabat, which is set to be one of the fastest growing places by 2024.
The American magazine Condé Nast Traveler ranks Rabat as one of the best international tourist destinations. The capital's economic and cultural expansion is not going unnoticed by tourists and, according to the magazine, it could gain importance over the classic destinations in Morocco. The aforementioned Marrakech, Fez and Tangier are some of the places with the greatest influx of tourists, although this is a trend that could change with the expected growth of visits to Rabat.

Some of the reasons for this growth could be the numerous cultural projects the Kingdom is working on. The new Grand Theatre of Rabat, located near the Mohammed VI Tower - currently under construction - will include a 1,800-seat theatre, an experimental performance space and a 7,000-seat amphitheatre, as well as incorporating green areas and a restaurant inside. This will make it the largest venue of its kind on the African continent, and it is expected to be able to host symphony, balé, opera and philharmonic performances.
The Mohammed VI Tower will be the third tallest skyscraper in Africa with a height of 250 metres, spread over 55 floors. It is a tower designed to obtain LEED Gold - Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design - and HQR certification, which would make it one of the most prominent on the continent.

In addition to all these new developments, the Mawazine festival is scheduled to return in the summer of next year. The festival ceased to be held as a result of the pandemic and is expected to return in style. It should be remembered that it is one of the most popular music events on the continent and brings together the most sought-after artists on the international scene. In its last edition in 2019, it brought together artists such as Rosalía, J Balvin and Maluma, so expectations are high for the 2024 line-up - yet to be announced.
Rabat is expecting a huge turnout for the event, which four years ago welcomed 2.75 million people. This will be one of the most important assets for tourism in the city for 2024, which, as Condé Nast Traveler points out, could become one of the fastest growing locations in terms of visitor numbers, not only in Morocco, but on the entire continent.
