2024, a record-breaking year for the Renault Group
One of the reasons for the sector's success was the Renault Group's incursion into the country's automotive industry. Since the arrival of the French brand, the automotive sector has tripled its influence in Moroccan industry.
With the end of the year 2024, the Renault Morocco Group has presented a report with the figures that have positioned the brand as the leading producer in the country. Some of the points covered in the document are production and exports, market and sales, performance of new projects, industrial ecosystem and achievements, social commitment and innovation, among others.
In terms of production, the group reached 413,614 vehicles, 8% more than last year, of which 312,381 were manufactured at the Tangier Med plant, and 101,233 at the SOMACA plant in Casablanca. 9 out of 10 cars produced were exported to 89 different countries.
If we refer to sales, Dacia and Renault occupy the first places with 38.4% of total sales; and if we divide it by models, Dacia Sandero, Dacia Logan, Renault Express, Renault Clio and Dacia Duster are among the top five best sellers. In terms of electric models, the Dacia Spring leads the electric segment in Morocco with a share of 40.2%.
Other achievements of the company included local integration, which reached a rate of 65.5%, an increase in local recruitment to 2.06 million euros, increased commitments to earthquake victims, and support for more than 20,000 people through road safety education programmes.
50 years fulfilling objectives
With more than 50 years of experience, the Moroccan automotive sector has established itself as the country's main source of exports, accounting for 27% of total exports. Both the work carried out over more than half a century and the bureaucratic facilities that facilitate investment by multinationals and its geographical position have enabled the Leoni Group to establish itself in the city of Agadir.
With eight different production models, two of which are electric, Morocco is also the largest vehicle producer in Africa and the leading vehicle supplier to the European Union.
This was stressed by the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, at the inauguration of a new industrial complex in the city of Agadir of the Leoni Group, which is expected to provide more than 10,100 jobs over the next two years.
Akhannouch alluded to figures on Morocco's car exports which exceeded 11.5 billion euros during the first nine months of 2024, registering an increase of 7% over the previous year.
