Royal Air Maroc anuncia su programa veraniego en el que reanudará rutas suspendidas por la pandemia
With the resumption of the tourism sector and the opening of air borders, Moroccan airlines are already planning their summer programmes. In view of the new normality in the air, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has presented its new summer packages to the public, with plans to reinstate the routes suspended during the pandemic.
The airline announced this in a statement. RAM plans to cover almost 90% of its pre-pandemic network, where it will resume connections to territories that were suspended during the virus crisis and where, for fear of spreading contagion, routes were cancelled.
"As a major player in domestic tourism, Royal Air Maroc has always supported the sector, and even more so in times of crisis, being almost the only operator to have maintained its flights to our country, despite major operational and financial difficulties," said Hamid Addou, CEO of the Moroccan airline.
The national carrier will offer six million seats, which will be distributed on 80 international routes. In addition, it has also been announced that new routes will be established to places such as Tel Aviv and Dubai. The Emirati city will be linked to Casablanca via a new route map.
One of the territories encompassing more new destinations for Moroccans is the Middle East. New connections have been established to the Saudi cities of Jeddah, Riyadh, Medina and also another connection to Cairo. The aim is to increase travel to this region by 25% over the summer of 2019, offering 200,000 seats.
One of the most popular destinations for Moroccan citizens is Europe. RAM has planned more than 2.2 million seats for flights to and from the continent. There will be 437 weekly trips to more than 32 European destinations from nine Moroccan airports.
Also in this context, 43 routes connecting 22 airports with the Kingdom are planned. Travellers enjoying this connection will have 1.3 million seats available and 237 weekly flights are planned between the North African nation and the European continent. For example, Mohammed V airport in Casablanca will be connected to Barcelona, Bologna, Malaga, Madrid, Brussels and Milan, with two daily flights to each European city.
In addition, the aim is to reinforce travel to destinations with the largest Moroccan communities in the world. This is due to the fact that in summer there is usually a high demand where family members visit them in their places of residence, or where Moroccans living abroad return to their native country. This is the case in France, which is why the airline plans to offer 890,000 seats on 400 flights a week to France. Thanks to this programme, nine French airports will be connected to eight Moroccan airports.
North America is also one of the destinations chosen by the airline for this new summer route. Four routes are planned linking Casablanca with New York, Washington, Montreal and Miami. A frequency of 35 direct flights a week is planned to these destinations and 500,000 seats will be offered on the aircraft.
It is important to note that although the Kingdom did maintain air links to the United States, the Casablanca-Miami route is the last to be re-launched. This was suspended for months due to the high spread of the virus. The return to connections between North America and Morocco represents an increase of 6% compared to the flights made in summer 2019.
However, RAM wants to take advantage of the boom in African destinations and is therefore going to focus on strengthening its intercontinental network. The airline will operate 110 times weekly to 25 destinations on the continent with more than 900,000 seats.
It should be noted that the airline has been a full African member of the global Oneworld organisation for the past two years. This alliance, made up of 14 other internationally renowned airlines, aims to offer the best possible service and routes to more than 1,000 destinations in 170 countries.
