Royal Air Maroc resumes direct flights to Brazil and launches new route to Toronto
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has resumed direct flights between Casablanca and Sao Paulo, restoring a vital link between the two countries that had been disrupted due to the COVID - 19 pandemic.
The first flight took place on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and landed at São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport. This direct connection will operate three times a week with this aircraft, which offers capacity for 247 passengers with 18 seats in business class and 256 in economy class. This model guarantees a ‘comfortable’ and ‘high quality’ flight experience.
The resumption of flights on this air route is a key response to the growing demand for travel and commercial links between Morocco and Brazil, in addition to strengthening cultural and tourist exchanges.
Shared flights between Morocco and Brazil
Royal Air Maroc and Brazil's Gol Linhas Aéreas also signed a codeshare agreement in November, allowing two or more airlines to share the same flight. This benefits customers of the two airlines between flights from Sao Paulo and Casablanca.
Under the agreement, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) customers will have access to Gol's network, including destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, among others. The Brazilian airline, for its part, will have interline market flights to more than 20 destinations in Africa covered by Royal Air Maroc.
The shared agreement will offer passengers different options including several fare alternatives, the possibility to buy a single ticket in local currency and insured protection on connecting flights.
This air connection will have three direct flights per week departing from Casablanca to Sao Paulo on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and from Sao Paulo to Casablanca on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Celso Ferrer, president of Gol Linhas Aéreas, said the partnership allows customers to travel from Gol's main hubs to Sao Paulo, Casablanca and other major destinations in Africa. Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, said the agreement is a step forward in responding to the growing demand from African and Latin American markets.
Under the new agreement, the two airlines will progressively add new destinations to the codeshare agreement both in South America with Gol and in Africa with the Moroccan airline.
Morocco and its connection to North America
In addition, on 2 August, an inaugural flight between Casablanca and Toronto was announced for 8 December. This route will also have three operations per week using the same aircraft model (Boeing 787 Dreamliner).
The air route, like the Casablanca-Sao Paulo one, confirms Morocco's moves to further connect the continent, as well as North and South America.
Souriya Otmani, Morocco's ambassador to Canada, said: ‘This direct flight will create new opportunities for entrepreneurs, academics, artists and citizens from both sides of the Atlantic.
Royal Air Maroc aims to end this year with 7.5 million passengers and its long-term goal is to achieve revenues of 94 billion Moroccan dirhams ($9.5 billion) and carry 31.6 million passengers by 2037.
