Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced on 2 January the launch of a new direct flight linking Rabat and Dakhla
  1. Agreement with the Dakhla region
  2. Passenger growth

The company announced that the date for this new direct air route is 15 January 2025 and that it will have a frequency of twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, according to its press release.

These flights will be scheduled from Rabat at 18:50 for an arrival in Dakhla at 21:30, with a duration of two hours and 40 minutes, while the return flights will leave Dakhla at 22:10 and land in Rabat at 00:25, 25 minutes earlier than the outbound flight.

Agreement with the Dakhla region

Through this new air project, RAM seeks to strengthen its development plan related to domestic services, which would not have been possible without the partnership signed between the airline and the Dakhla Oued-Eddahab region, which aims to improve the air connectivity of this very active and touristic region, while strengthening its impact both nationally and internationally.

The two partners set the price at 2,000 dirhams, approximately 200 euros, for a round trip in economy class. Moreover, to reinforce his message, RAM's chairperson and CEO, Hamid Addou, added in the statement that ‘the launch of this airline will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the air connectivity of Dakhla and the southern provinces in general.’

Indeed, Royal Air Maroc has consolidated its key role in Morocco's economic and tourism development and continues to multiply its efforts to facilitate the transport of Moroccan citizens in the twelve regions of the country, increasing direct services and improving the passenger experience.

In addition, the partnership between RAM and the Dakhla Oued-Eddahab region continues to strengthen air connections between the cities of the north and south, as the Moroccan airline now operates two daily flights connecting Casablanca with Dakhla.

Passenger growth

The timing of the launch of this project could not be better, with a 35.94% increase in the number of passengers transiting through Dakhla airport during the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, which could mean an increase for this year.

At the end of September 2024, some 228,932 passengers had been documented compared to 168,411 passengers recorded during the same period in 2023, according to data from the National Airports Office (ONDA), which also recorded a 39.81% increase in air traffic in September compared to the same period in 2023. Similarly, during the same period in 2024, Morocco's airports recorded a record 24,274,324 passengers, an increase of 19.66% over the previous year.

The launch of the Rabat-Dajla direct route is undoubtedly proof of Royal Air Maroc's intelligence and commitment to the development of the national air network, unlocking distant regions and promoting local tourism. Moreover, this approach is clearly in line with the objectives of the contract programme signed in July 2023 with the Moroccan government.
