Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is about to embark on a major transformation to establish itself as a global airline. With a bold strategy focused on fleet expansion and operational realignment, RAM aims to increase the size of its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037, enabling an increase in passenger capacity from 7.3 million to 31.6 million. By adopting a point-to-point approach and strengthening its domestic network, the airline aims to offer both north-south and east-west transcontinental connections. This ambitious vision is counting on the support of the state to ensure sufficient funding.

According to Le Matin, the national airline, Royal Air Maroc, is entering a new phase of development after 50 years of experience in long-haul travel. On 11 July, RAM signed a new contractual framework with the government in Rabat, marking the start of a substantial transformation. Guided by a bold strategy, the airline aims to achieve remarkable growth by expanding its fleet and realigning its operations.

RAM's goal is to become a global airline. In its quest to position itself as a global carrier, Royal Air Maroc intends to gradually increase its fleet of aircraft from the current 60 to 200. This expansion will be accompanied by a significant increase in passenger capacity. The company's ambition is to offer transcontinental links by reinforcing its transnational network.

Its strategy is underpinned by financing and financial stability. To guarantee the financing of the acquisition of new aircraft, Royal Air Maroc relies on an annual contribution from the state, which will be adapted to financial needs. A monitoring committee appointed by the head of government will annually assess the need for capital increases to support the acquisition of aircraft. This approach ensures accurate planning, maintains financial stability and guarantees the success of RAM's transformation.

In addition, they intend to open new routes and generate controlled growth in the short to medium term. In the short term, Royal Air Maroc plans to strengthen its offer on existing routes while developing medium and long-haul connections. The company is committed to controlled growth, opening new long-haul routes in tourism and ethnic transport. Route openings planned for 2027 include European destinations such as Manchester, Munich, Zurich and Naples, as well as African cities such as Tripoli, Ndjamena, Abuja, Nairobi, Johannesburg and the island of Sal in Cape Verde.

In the medium term, Royal Air Maroc plans to fully transform itself into a global carrier, which will require increasing its size and doubling its fleet. Plans include opening medium and long-haul routes on four continents. By 2037, new destinations will include Warsaw, Budapest, Dublin, Lille, Copenhagen, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Oslo, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Prague, Vienna, Stockholm, Birmingham and Bucharest in Europe. In Southern Europe, destinations such as Athens, Catania, Florence, Faro, Alicante, Bilbao and Palma de Mallorca are planned. RAM also intends to connect cities in Africa, the Middle East, America and Asia.

In addition to expanding its network of destinations, Royal Air Maroc is taking a global approach to better connect Morocco's cities, open up to remote regions and promote domestic tourism. An internal network project is being developed to serve the 12 regions of the Kingdom, with new services from Casablanca, Rabat and Agadir. Transversal lines connecting Fez, Nador, Oujda, Guelmim, Laayoune and Dakhla are also planned. This initiative will offer a total of 46 routes with 173 frequencies, improving the travel experience for passengers on short and medium-haul flights.
