Aramco, the Saudi Arabian oil company, has just announced that it has discovered several gas basins in the country. The fields are distributed throughout the country, although the largest of them are located in four large areas.

As reported by the Saudi Press Agency, in the words of the Kingdom's Ministry of Energy, the gas is distributed in four main areas. The first is in the Central Region, another in the Empty Quarter desert, while the other two are in the northern and eastern border regions, respectively.

The new natural gas fields are very good news for the country. It is estimated that when these fields begin to be exploited, they will be capable of producing more than 100 million cubic feet of natural gas, making Saudi Arabia's expansion in the sector ever greater. It is worth noting that the country holds the second largest natural gas reserves in the world, after those discovered in Qatar.

In the Central Region, there is the Shadun-1 well field. It is capable of producing 25 million cubic feet per day, a total of 3,300 barrels of gas already condensed. On the other hand, the one in the Empty Quarter desert has been named Shehab, which is capable of producing 31 million cubic feet per day of natural gas. In addition, the Al-Shorfa well is also located in this area, which is very important in obtaining this natural resource for the Saudi kingdom.

On the other hand, an unconventional natural gas field has been discovered in the northern region bordering Iraq. It has been named Umm Khansir, as another well of the same name is located nearby. The field will be capable of producing 2 million cubic feet per day, so it will have a capacity to fill 295 barrels of gas already condensing. In the eastern region, bordering countries such as Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, the Samna well has been found, which has a rate of 5.8 million cubic feet and is capable of filling 24 barrels of condensate in a day.

It is worth remembering that unconventional natural gas has the same components as normal natural gas, the only reason it is called this way is because of the complex techniques required for its extraction, which are usually more specific than those used in conventional gas wells.

These new fields represent an expansion in gas production that was part of Saudi Arabia's main objectives. The country has long been looking for ways or techniques to reduce the amount of oil flared for energy production, and thanks to the new discoveries, energy could be exported more profitably and much more cheaply than usual. The aim is also to improve the global climate change situation and to be able to emit zero net emissions by 2060.

Aramco is one of the most important companies in the world and is a leading producer of energy in international trade, capable of supplying large quantities of this resource. 70,000 workers operate daily in the search for resources in Saudi Arabia and since its foundation in 1933, it has not stopped reaping good results for the Kingdom.

The Kingdom has large mega-projects that are dedicated to the production of energy resources. These include the "Fadhili" gas plant, which is responsible for processing large quantities of gas; "Manifa", an oil plant off the country's coast; "Sadara", another factory capable of producing large volumes of chemical products.

Another of its mega-projects is "Shaybah", dedicated to the extraction of oil in the middle of the Rub' al-Khali desert, or "Wasit", another plant specialised in the production and treatment of oil and gas, which emits very little carbon emissions into the atmosphere during the year.
