Saudi Aramco discovers two oil and gas fields
The state oil company Saudi Aramco has discovered two new oil and gas fields in the north of Saudi Arabia, as confirmed this Sunday by the Kingdom's energy minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud, quoted by the state news agency SPA.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud pointed out that the new Abraq al-Toloul oil field, located southeast of the northern city of Arar, flows at a daily rate of 3,189 barrels per day (bpd) of light crude oil, together with 3.5 million cubic feet of natural gas.
The minister also pointed out to the SPA agency that the natural gas in this new field comes from the Qawara reserve and feeds Abraq al-Toloul.
For its part, the Hadat al-Hajrah gas field in the Al-Jouf region has a daily production rate of 16 million cubic feet of natural gas, along with 1,944 bpd of oil, according to the minister.
Saudi Aramco will continue to estimate the total amount of oil and gas in the two new fields and is drilling more wells to specify areas and capacities, Abdulaziz bin Salman added.
The Saudi company, the world's biggest oil exporter, announced on 10 August that its plans to increase its production capacity to 13 million barrels of crude oil per day have not changed despite the current crisis stemming from the coronavirus pandemic and after seeing its profits fall by 73% during the second quarter of the year.
