ScottishPower to invest more than 262 million euros in the UK distribution network
ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN), Iberdrola's distribution company in the United Kingdom, will allocate more than 262 million euros to modernise the electricity distribution network in the United Kingdom, in a firm commitment to electrification, job creation and strengthening its supply chain.
The investment will be channelled through the extension of key contracts with six companies specialising in overhead lines, which over the next four years will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of more than 20,000 kilometres of network in Scotland and north-west England. This action is part of the distribution business plan of Electricity Distribution (ED2) for the period 2023-2028 and paves the way for the future ED3.
The modernisation of infrastructure is key to advancing electrification and the UK's emissions reduction targets. With this announcement, SPEN reinforces its strategic role in driving a cleaner, safer and more efficient energy model and consolidates its commitment to local economic development, sustainability, supplier support and innovation in the British energy sector.
