Spain and Morocco are committed to mutual prosperity as a driving force for trade and investment
In her speech to close the forum held on 22 May at the headquarters of the CEOE, the Secretary of State for Trade, Xiana Jiménez, stressed the importance of the slogan chosen for the title of the business meeting: "shared prosperity must be the objective of trade and investment; Morocco's prosperity is Spain's prosperity, and vice versa".
For the Secretary of State, "relations between the two countries, which are excellent in themselves, are also measured in enormous bilateral trade figures. Spain's investment in Morocco could still be improved, although it is not negligible and is very diversified by sector".
Jiménez also cited the factors mentioned by the Moroccan Minister of Investment, friendship, good neighbourliness and cooperation, "which are at the basis of the ties we have been building. Morocco is a fundamental partner for reaching out to other countries on the African continent".
"The successful experience of Spanish companies, which we have just heard in this forum, shows the alliance and commitment, with a sustainable and long-term vision. And the integration of the business organisations of both countries also plays an important role in this", he concluded.
On behalf of the Moroccan government, the Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli, was in charge of closing this business meeting.
The Moroccan minister mentioned as an important proof of Morocco's commitment to its Mediterranean partners the initiative for the joint organisation of the 2030 Football World Cup by Morocco, Spain and Portugal: "we are partners and there are many things we can do better together than separately".
For Jazouli, "in times of change, Morocco can be a great partner that brings stability, security, long-term vision, fundamental characteristics for those who want to invest in our country. In addition, we have a very young population, with an average age of 29; green energy at an affordable cost compared to other European countries; and growing experience in the automotive and aeronautical sectors".
The government representative also explained that the agreements reached with Spain allow investors access to more than 2.5 billion potential customers: "the coming years could be very prosperous in terms of creating a successful future. There is a lot to do together and we form a good team. Welcome to Morocco, we look forward to welcoming you".
The business meeting organised at the CEOE continued on the afternoon of 22 May with a series of simultaneous one-to-one meetings between the Moroccan Investment Development Agency (AMDIE) and a number of Spanish companies on business and investment opportunities in the agri-food, waste, renewable energy, water and tourism sectors.
