The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) welcomed a delegation from the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE), led by Antonio Garamendi, to Casablanca with the aim of strengthening business cooperation and strategic investment.

Chaired by Chakib Alj, president of the CGEM, and in the presence of Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, the meeting addressed new opportunities for bilateral collaboration in a global economic context undergoing profound transformation.

The complementarity of the Moroccan and Spanish business fabrics was evident during the meeting. The meeting also addressed increased collaboration in key sectors of both economies, such as tourism, automotive, education, pharmaceuticals, sustainability and new technologies.

Alongside the presidents of both confederations and Karim Zidane, the meeting was attended by Mehdi Tazi, Deputy President of the CGEM; Ghita Lahlou, Vice-President and Chair of the International Commission; Íñigo Fernández de Mesa, Vice-President of the CEOE; and Marta Blanco, Chair of the International Relations Commission.

Boosting cooperation between SMEs

Given the high level of macroeconomic cooperation between Spain and Morocco, with increasingly significant trade figures, the representatives of the CGEM and the CEOE focused the debate on the flow of money from the macroeconomy to Moroccan and Spanish SMEs.

To this end, the main levers for promoting cross-investment as a driver of innovation and employment were identified. The aim is for Moroccan companies to have greater access to Latin American markets through Spanish companies and to help Spanish SMEs expand into Africa with Moroccan companies as intermediaries.

The objective, in the words of those attending, is to create a sustainable Euro-African axis of capital flow. Both Morocco and Spain share the same objectives: to become regional benchmarks for growth. Therefore, greater collaboration between companies in both regions can strengthen the Spanish-Moroccan union as a commercial hub of great international interest.

World Cup 2030: a catalyst for economic alliances

During the recent negotiations, the issue of investments and strategic collaborations related to the 2030 World Cup, which will be jointly organised by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, was also discussed.

The presidents of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE) agreed that this global event has the potential to boost economic development, create jobs and generate sustainable growth and opportunities.

With this vision in mind, and in coordination with Armindo Monteiro, president of the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP), it was decided to establish a joint committee comprising the CGEM, CEOE and CIP.

This group will have the mission of designing a common roadmap for the private sectors of the three countries, promoting the exchange of experiences and ongoing collaboration. In addition, a Morocco-Spain-Portugal Business Forum is planned for 2026 in Rabat, which will serve as a platform to bring together business leaders from the three nations.
