Tangier Med processes more than 10 million containers in 2024, 18.8% more than the previous year

The Port Authority of Tangier Med confirmed that the Mediterranean's leading port in terms of activity processed a total of 10.24 million standardised containers (TEUs) last year, 18.8% more than in 2023, thanks to the ‘confidence and commitment of the port operators and shipping lines’.
A total of 516,842 trucks passed through the port facilities in 2024, representing a year-on-year growth of 8.1%. This increase in traffic was particularly driven by industrial products and agri-foodstuffs, which recorded an increase of 7.2%.
In terms of passenger traffic, a total of 3,047,387 transits were recorded at the port facilities in 2024, which meant a 13% growth compared to 2023.
The increase in passenger traffic was particularly due to the Operation Crossing the Strait or Marhaba campaign, which annually facilitates the transit of Moroccans living abroad during the summer season. Thus, in 2024, Operation Marhaba figures reached 850,000 passengers and 265,000 vehicles.
Also, the vehicle terminals in the port processed a total of 600,872 vehicles over the whole of last year, which is equivalent to an increase of 4% compared to the same period the previous year.
Exports of vehicles from the Renault factories in Melloussa, SOMACA in Casablanca and Stellantis in Kenitra reached 368,843 units, which shows the important evolution of the Moroccan automotive industry.
