The Spain's Ministry of Defence and Indra Group sign a protocol to promote the digital transformation of the department

Both entities will work together in key areas such as digitisation, technological innovation and the exchange of best practices

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General José María Millán, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Indra Group, Manuel Escalante, and Indra's Commercial Director for Defence and Security in Spain, Daniel de Lorenzo, have signed a general action protocol to strengthen collaboration in the field of digital transformation and technological evolution in the department.

With this signing, the digital transformation of the Ministry of Defence takes an important step forward, as it will enable progress in the technological modernisation of the department, in line with the digitisation efforts of public administrations.

The agreement, which has an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of extension, comes into force upon signing and covers different lines of action, grouped into two fundamental areas: firstly, work will be carried out on the digitisation of key domains for defence, in order to analyse and apply the Indra Group's capabilities to the technological challenges of the sector; and secondly, the evolution of architectures will be addressed, as well as the feasibility of adapting technological solutions from the civil sphere to the operational needs of the military environment.ar.

The agreement also promotes knowledge exchange through meetings between personnel from both entities and has the support of external collaborators, such as universities, research centres and other strategic partners.

With this agreement, the Ministry of Defence and Indra Group reinforce their commitment to technological innovation and continuous improvement in the defence sector, contributing to the modernisation of the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces and national security.

CESTIC, responsible for information and communications technologies at the Ministry of Defence

With the rank of Directorate General and reporting to the Secretary of State for Defence, CESTIC is the governing body responsible for planning, developing, programming and managing policies relating to information and communications systems and technologies, digital transformation, data, information and knowledge management, and information security, as well as supervising and directing their implementation.

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Ministry of Defence is responsible for defining the department's technology strategy, identifying innovative solutions for the development of information and telecommunications capabilities and services, planning and executing projects, and coordinating the participation of national industry in technological initiatives, both at the national level and in programmes of international security and defence organisations of which Spain is a member.
