The Moroccan delegation participating in Doing Business visits the Port of Barcelona
The willingness and intentions of the Port Authority of Barcelona to increase its economic and commercial relationship with Morocco, and specifically with the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region were highlighted by the visit to its facilities offered to the Moroccan delegation that had participated this Wednesday in the Doing Business Barcelona under the slogan Together for the development of its business.
Jalal Benhayoun, general director of the Regional Investment Center of Tangier, Tetouan and Al Hoceima thanked the support of the Port Authority of Barcelona to be able to explain in Barcelona to Catalan businessmen the investment opportunities in northern Morocco and was impressed by the facilities of the Port of Barcelona during the boat tour he made with members of the delegation.
During the trip, Javier Mendez, was in charge of explaining the details of every corner of a key port in the Mediterranean with excellent capabilities that already hosts the facilities of numerous participants of the America's Cup Sailing, whose celebration, in Spanish waters, is scheduled to be held in 2024. From the Red Bull brand, Britannia, to the teams from the United States, France, New Zealand, among others.
On both sides of the navigation through the waters of the Port of Barcelona, the Moroccan delegation was able to observe the Maremagnum commercial area, the Marriott hotel, the site of the Harry Potter exhibition, the ice factory for the fishing boats that were out fishing, the fish market, the environmental measurement facilities, the ferry terminal with route to the Balearic Islands and the specialized ships for dangerous goods.
Particularly impressive was the so-called Gateway to Europe, which gave way to the cargo and container terminal, the cruise ship terminal, the ecological ships, the facilities for cereals and other products such as cement, before arriving at the most modern terminal with automated systems with cranes capable of handling 40 containers per hour.
Earlier, the Moroccan delegation had seen the Enagas terminal, the largest regasification plant in Spain connected to the grid to supply Spanish households and to export to Europe; the petroleum and chemical products plant of Meroil, Lujkoil; the Maersk area and other places in a port that has already planned its expansion capacity.
Facility and investment opportunities
The Regional Investment Council of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region organized its latest business meeting at the World Trade Center in Barcelona to encourage Spanish investors to invest in this booming region of Morocco, which is experiencing tremendous growth.
The meeting, entitled "Doing Business in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region", with the slogan "Together for the development of your business", was held in collaboration with the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Tangier; the Morocco-Spain Economic Council (CEMAES); the General Confederation of Moroccan Companies (CGEM); the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; PIMEC; Foment del Treball; and ACCIÓ Catalonia Trade & Investment, and was hosted by the Port Authority of Barcelona.
The event was attended by more than 400 Spanish and Moroccan investors, as well as various economic actors, who had the opportunity to learn about the various official bodies that accompany and facilitate the work of investors interested in establishing themselves in this Moroccan region, as well as the tools and advantages available to them.
The meeting also served to strengthen economic ties and trade exchanges between the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, a real gateway for European investors to the African continent, and to strengthen the economic relationship between this region and Catalonia, especially in key economic sectors such as automotive, logistics, renewable energy, tourism and agri-food industry.
During his speech, the general director of the Regional Investment Center of Tangier, Tetouan and Al Hoceima, Jalal Benhayoun, highlighted the commitment of this institution, together with its partners, to continue promoting the territorial offer and the economic development of the region, which constitutes an optimal and competitive business environment.
In conjunction with organizations such as the NORDEV Fund and thanks to the favorable fiscal and economic regulations provided for in the new investment charter approved by the Moroccan Government, the Regional Investment Center has set up a series of support and advisory mechanisms to accompany international investors during all stages of the process.
