Within the framework of decentralisation and advanced regionalisation, the Urban Agency of Tangier is taking the reins locally with a view to contributing to the development of both the city and the various peripheral areas of the region.

After approving the financial and management report of the projects carried out for the year 2022, the Tangier Urban Agency, in the 21st session of the Agency's Board of Directors, chaired by the inspector general of the Department of Territorial Planning and Urbanism, Reda Guennoun, presented its action plan for the period 2023-2025, which will include historical monuments, ecological spaces and socioeconomic and cultural centers.

In the context of the implementation of advanced regionalisation, administrative decentralisation and the new development model, the Agency is called upon to redouble its efforts to meet the development challenges facing the region, the inspector general urged the Agency.

Faced with the challenge of combating disparities in the region and achieving a certain balance and harmony between the various territorial areas, the Agency continues to consolidate its role from a participatory and consultative perspective, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable areas, but with outstanding ecological potential.

In order to meet the expectations of the inhabitants of the Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, which has recently enjoyed unprecedented economic momentum and dynamism, the agency, in collaboration with its partners and economic actors, stresses the importance of accelerating the development of this region, thanks to promising large-scale projects and programmes that are having an international impact.

In this sense, the Agency presented, during this session of its Board of Directors, the achievements that have marked the economy of the region in the different sectors of vital importance for the citizens; pointing out the challenges that hinder the implementation of some projects and that require more efforts and attention in order to overcome them and to achieve the vision of sustainable development of the region in general and of the city of Tangier in particular.

In order to improve its work and meet the needs of its users and partners, the institution reviews its performance indicators for 2022, as well as presents the main actions to be undertaken over the next three years. In this respect, the Agency has managed to develop and monitor all the urban planning documents that have reached 54 by December 2022, of which 45 documents have been approved and 9 are currently under study.

It should be recalled that urban agencies play a primary and strategic role in the planning and approval of city development plans, as well as in the socio-economic support of territories, with the aim of achieving harmony and balance capable of eliminating any disparities at the territorial level.
