Karima is a twenty-eight-year-old woman, Moroccan and a civil engineer. She owns her own construction company. She is proud of being Moroccan and being a part of, what she defines as “a beautiful and politically and economically stable country, full of opportunities which respects young people. The king is always looking to make a brighter future”

We are currently in Dahla, what is your aim here?

Exactly. So, we are now in Dahla, a beautiful city. La pearl du Maroc. it's a diamond. A semi-island in the dessert of Morocco.

The United States has recently admitted that the Sahara is, and has always been Moroccan. The have recognized how Sahara is a part of Morocco. There is no authority from The Polisario or any other entity. We are proud of this decision coming from the United States.

With this news, Dahla is getting recognition around the world. This city has always been a touristic destination for surfers. However, we are here now to support and invest in this city. My colleagues and I aim boost youth employment and develop workplaces here in the city of Dahla. We love our country, but we look forward to projects in the in all of our regions, not just Casablanca or Tanger.

Our projects target the fishing industry and port development. A new concept to attract more tourists and to make this beautiful Dahla an iconic city a worldwide.

You are talking about development progress and economic activities. Creating employment. In my opinion, this should be the path, the best path, towards stability and improving people’s lives.

Of course, we are always looking for a better of life for ourselves. As I told you, this is the key strategy of our country. I feel the need to highlight something: Sahara is a peaceful and quite place. There is no conflict here. We have our armed forces and our government ensuring stability to this today here in the Sahara.

You feel safe, here in Dahla

I always feel safe here. I want to say that Morocco has always been a safe place to live in, to invest in. I'm sending a message to investors: Morocco is the future of the world; Morocco will be the best place in the world to invest in because there is a lot of opportunities. All around Morocco, but especially in Dahla.

Tell us more about your company. What type of construction do you carry out? What do you expect to do here, in Dahla?

About my job, I'm civil engineer. I have my own construction company which specialises in roads, bridges and water canals. And, what I'm doing here? I want to participate in the development of this city. The city council and the regional government is composed by highly competent people who are working on the city. They are looking for developing a very successful place to attract investors.

And we shall not neglect this. They are faciliting all types of counselling and guidance regarding how to invest and work in Dahla. They our helping us to find the right projects in the right places. As for myself, I would like to start by investing on a tourism project.

Well, I bet you can find great joint ventures with Spain. There are great Spanish tourism experts looking for investment opportunities here in Morocco, such as hotel groups like Melia.

Of course. It definitely is the right time to invest here. And, as you know, it is a very safe place. This is an important part of Morocco. To the fullest. The United States, Israel, the United Arab Emirates… they have recognized how much a part of Morocco the Sahara is.

Do you think that Spain must also recognised it as soon as possible?

Yes. Spain must do it too. We hope so, because you are our brothers. You are the closest country for us. It's not something to discuss, just accept it. When you accept it, you will do you will find peace. I think everything comes in the right moment. When Spain sees the developments and the evolution made here in Sahara, it will admit that Sahara is Moroccan and how Morocco has worked for a brighter and peaceful future for Sahara. This is the right moment for Spanish people and investors to come here. I assure you; we will help you navigate the different projects and opportunities. We are looking forward to helping local and foreign investors.

Thank you for this interview and your time. Spain is always welcome here, as well as the rest of the world.
